David Lussier Workshops

A Rewarding Learning Experience

David is a compassionate and encouraging plein air workshop instructor. He is one of the top plein air painters working in the United States today and his passion for painting and teaching runs deep. David has a unique ability to reach each student where they are at with their knowledge of painting and to help them understand their painting strengths and weaknesses. A common goal for any student at a workshop is to reach the next level in their painting abilities. David is committed to helping each student reach that goal. With his laid-back and friendly personality matched with an intense passion for painting, a workshop with David is a rewarding experience.

With more than 15 years experience as an instructor of plein air and studio workshops, David understands the importance of putting information out there for students in such a way that they hear it, see it and grasp it. He breaks the painting process down into simple and understandable steps so that any 'guess work' is replaced with clarity.

A daily morning demonstration that lasts about one hour, helps students to understand visually and verbally how to approach a subject outdoors. David's demonstrations are clear and they follow steps in an orderly fashion that make sense. He encourages questions and explains his process. By understanding this process, the student becomes more confident. Confidence produces better paintings and allows a more intuitive and spontaneous connection to the subject matter.

Individual instruction immediately follows the morning demonstration and students will be encouraged to apply the principles used. It is David's desire to help students design stronger compositions, understand the importance of getting down big shapes first and to see how this frees the artist to have more fun with the painting process. Individual and group critiques help to cement lessons learned, offer ideas on improvement and result in continued growth.
