Our mission is to preserve and promote Cape Ann’s legacy as the birthplace of American Plein Air painting. By collaborating with local art organizations and businesses we build community and expand Cape Ann’s creative economy.
Gloucester Arts Festival Plein Air Invitational
We invite you to take a look at the wonderfully talented, exceptional artists competing in this year’s competition. Coming from all over the country (and internationally!), the artists will be painting our local scenery…rivers, farmland, marine views, and gardens, competing for over $25,000 in prize money as part of the 2026 Heart of the River Collection. View the collection at The Fine Arts Museum of Gloucester, June 15th through the 27th. Thirty highly acclaimed and award-winning plein air artists will participate.

Come see our working space and explore what’s available. We’ll have lots of paintings, oil sketches and painting demos for you to look at. We are a part of the Artists of Salmon Falls Mills and so, along with our studio space, there will be dozens of artists at the Salmon Falls Mills opening their doors for this 2 day event in the Upper Mill and Lower Mill Buildings. This year, there will be food available in the Lower Mill by Friends of the Library, HomeGrown Eats, and the Pretzel Company! Plenty of parking is available in Upper Mill lot or head down to the water view parking near the Library in Lower Mill!

Spend the morning in a guided painting exercise. The artist instructor will start with a short demo followed by individual and group instruction as you paint.
All registered members will receive an email a few weeks prior to the event for you to select which artists you would like to paint with and AIS will match your requests with space availability.

Twelve Days of Christmas Paintings
Featuring Paintings of ALL FOUR SEASONS by David & Pamela Lussier
Our theme this year are the 4 seasons of New England. David and Pam will both paint a new 6x9 painting for each of the 12 days. We will post the finished paintings on our website at the end of each day, available for immediate purchase. We will aim to post each night at 7:30PM. As in the past, the dry paintings will be shipped to you unframed and shipping is free.
Special Incentive to buy: If you purchase a set of 4 paintings, we will frame them for you free of charge. This is a giant savings. We will charge you a small shipping and handling charge of $75 to ship all 4 framed paintings anywhere in the United Sates.
Starts on Monday Nov 27 and the last painting will be painted on Friday Dec 8.
We will post completed paintings on our website daily by 7:30PM to Early Bird subscribers. Paintings will be available on our website on the 12 Day of Christmas ‘23 page the following morning.

Once again, we will each paint a 6x9 painting for 12 straight days beginning on November 29th. The completion of the 12 days will culminate with the celebration and party on the 10th. This will be our fifth year of doing the 12 days paintings!

SMALL WORKS HOLIDAY SHOWCASE
Our‘SMALL WORKS HOLIDAY SHOWCASE’ exhibit in November, which will feature our work, Ben Lussier and Jennifer Simpson, and that of over 20 guest artists from David Lussier’s Art Circle. The Small Works Holiday Showcase will feature small affordable paintings for the holidays. Paintings will range in size from 6x8 to 9x12. A reception will be held on November 26, from 2-6PM with light refreshments.
OPEN STUDIO WEEKEND
Our open studio at the Salmon Falls Mills in Rollinsford will take place on November 19th and 20th. The open studio weekend will feature our ‘Sketches & Demos’ show. This is also the weekend of the Artists at Salmon Falls Mill Open Studios. The Salmon Falls Mills are made up of two large mill buildings each with 5 floors of studios and businesses. The mills are made up of painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelers, dancers, illustrators, wood turners, furniture makers and artisans and artists of all kinds. Come spend an hour, come spend a day.
