David Lussier

David Lussier is an award winning contemporary impressionist and nationally recognized plein air painter and workshop instructor. He is a painter in the purist sense of the word. In his poetic and intimate oil landscapes he strives to capture the essence and sense of place of his subject matter. His use of bold broad brushwork brings the surfaces to life and begs the viewer to return for a second look. As a commercially trained illustrator, he quickly realized that his passion was in the fine arts and he changed careers. His work has received more than 75 prizes and is in numerous private and corporate collections throughout the United States and abroad. His paintings have been featured in many art journals and he is a professional member of some of the finest art associations and groups in the country. David is also an official U.S. Open artist for the United States Golf Association. Four of his paintings hang in the permanent collection of the USGA Museum in Far Hills New Jersey and most recently two of his paintings of the iconic and famous number 2 course at Pinehurst Resort were installed at the USGA’s new campus at Golf House in Pinehurst North Carolina.

Pamela Lussier

Pamela Lussier is best described as a contemporary Impressionist. A 1978 graduate of the Art Institute of Boston, she has been active for more than 20 years, in the national plein air scene teaching workshops and participating in national paint outs including Easels of Frederick, Frederick, MD, Wayne Plein Air Festival, Wayne, PA, & Finger Lakes Plein Air, Canandaigua NY. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions and her work has won numerous awards.

In December of 2007, Pam was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer, which resulted in the loss of her kidney function. Though her cancer remained in total remission after treatment, she had to receive dialysis treatment for six years. Throughout these life changing events, she continued to paint and teach. Her positive work ethic and attitude made her an inspiration to all those around her. Family, friends and students have all been touched by Pam's ability to press on with a sense of passion and drive, often putting their needs above her own. She received a new kidney in 2013 and is has been thriving ever since.

Pam pursues her passion of painting full time, and teaches painting workshops with her husband David Lussier. She is a naturally gifted teacher and home schooled her children for 10 years. From mid April through December she manages the David Lussier Gallery in Kittery Maine.

“ Our gallery is an exciting new adventure for our family. We will mainly represent David Lussier, Pamela Lussier, Ben Lussier and Jenifer Simpson. We will also have special shows including art friends and members of David’s Art Circle community. We thank the rest of our family for your enthusiasm and support of our new endeavor. Especially Caroline Lussier who helps us so much behind the scenes as our social media manager and a special nod to our granddaughter, Selma Rose Steele, for inspiring us by representing the next generation.”

Benjamin Lussier

Benjamin Lussier is a landscape painter currently based on Monhegan Island, Maine. Lussier discovered his love for painting at an early age through the influence of his father, who provided instruction in the basics of value, color, and composition throughout childhood and adolescence. A native of New England, Lussier draws on his love of rural landscape for his choice of subject matter and is especially inspired by coastal and maritime imagery.

Lussier shows promising talent very early in his career. He has exhibited in numerous nationally juried exhibitions and plein air events. His paintings have been honored with multiple awards from the Salmagundi Club in New York City. Lussier’s work is available through Folly Cove Fine Art in Rockport, Massachusetts as well as several galleries in Maine, including Elizabeth Moss Galleries in Falmouth,  The David Lussier Gallery in Kittery, and the Lupine Gallery on Monhegan Island.

In August of 2021 Lussier successfully defended his dissertation, In All Seriousness: Play, Knowledge, and Community in the Union of Real Art, and now holds a doctorate in Russian literature from Columbia University. Seemingly unrelated, his literary and cultural studies have dramatically both inspired and continues to shape his artistic practice.

Jennifer Simpson

Jennifer Simpson has been surrounded by art and plein air painting her whole life, making her first oil painting at seven years old. She grew up studying the work of her stepfather, David, and mother, Pamela: attending workshops, assisting in their galleries, and even critiquing their in-progress paintings. She fondly remembers many conversations with her mother about what color the sky was that day and how to mix it with oil paints.

Jennifer studied fine art at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) ON Baltimore, MD for two years. However, after leaving school she moved cross country and took an extended break from fine art. During this time, she found another passion. After completing an arduous apprenticeship, Jennifer became a professional tattoo artist. She loves making deeply personal work for her clients. Every tattoo is an important connection and a potential positive change to someone's life, and she takes this responsibilty very seriously.

In June of 2021, Jennifer moved back to New England with her husband and her daughter, Selma. She now works at Tsunami Tattoo in Portland, ME. Although tattooing and parenting take up much of her time, the beauty of the Maine seacoast has reignited the passion for plein air that has always resided deep in her heart.

After a lifetime of education through osmosis, the influence of her parents is evident in her paintings. Both the gentle care of Pamela's work and the bold energy of David's are present, blended together with her own artistic sensibility to create a style uniquely her own. She strives to balance accuracy and abstraction in a way to that brings an intimate sense of place to the viewer.

Jennifer has always felt pulled towards plein air and the life of a painter, but had a sense that the time to focus on it would come later in life. She looks forward to finally having the chance to devote more time to the discipline of painting, even as she strives for continued excellence in her tattooing.
